Last year, more than a dozen people were arrested in New Jersey and New York on various charges, including murder, racketeering, robbery, assault and several firearms violations.īut those people weren’t members of the same family, only associates. Officials said there was a two-year investigation into the alleged crime family, which apparently developed from a bootleg taxi business owned by John “Sonny Black” Chiaravalloti. “There will have to be a long-term effort in this state to prosecute people who belong to these organizations that have terrorized communities for a long, long period of time.” “We’re going to have to be very persistent,” she said. “It’s a wake-up call for them,” Milgram said. New Jersey Attorney General Anne Milgram said the bust was part of the “biggest Mafia family takedown in decades.” She said the arrests should send a message to gangsters who think they can do as they please in the state. A 14-year-old girl was taken into custody for allegedly keeping a Glock pistol in her closet at her home. Also among those arrested were various associates including a correction officer from the state’s Department of Corrections. The two Ravanellis and two Bonobinos were arrested Wednesday night and 33 guns were seized, many of them from members of their own family. The four couples arrested in what law enforcement is calling the “biggest Mafia family takedown” in years, already have pleaded not guilty to charges of extortion. The Bonobino clan has been charged with extortion and two Ravanelli cousins to do the same.
